Food Will Not Make You Feel Better

Food will not make you feel better.

Only your thoughts can do that.

So why do we keep asking and expecting food to do that for us?

Because we have never been taught how to deal with our emotions.

The foods we are consuming are so highly concentrated (sugar and flour)that it causes a huge hit of Dopamine, which lights up the pleasure center in our brain.

Your brain thinks that that food is vital to your survival and causes you to overdesire these very concentrated foods.

It feels so good to eat the “wrong” foods.

Now, when we are stressed at work, frustrated with our kids or partner instead of just sitting with that negative emotion, our primitive brain whispers “I have the answer….all you need to do is grab a peanut butter cup”.

You are then focusing on something other than the stress and frustration, and you eat the peanut butter cup and you get this great hit of dopamine….now these feeling of stress and frustration and less intense. We desire more peanut butter cups, we eat more, we feel more pleasure.

This is the False Pleasures cycle.

False Pleasures are things outside of us that we use to feel better.

Food, snacks, alcohol, social media, shopping, gambling, and porn are some examples.

They are all concentrated forms of pleasure. And for many of us, they have a net negative consequence.

We are giving our power away to false pleasures.

We want something outside of us to make us feel better.

This never works.

Feeling better is an inside job.

You have to recognize that you are the one who is making YOURSELF feel bad.

Your kids, partner, job, or the President do not make you feel bad (or good!).

This is the best news I have for you.

You can choose to feel better right now if you want to.

Do you want to feel better?
